Marriage

For Catholics, the Sacrament of marriage is a public sign that one gives oneself totally to another person. It is also a public statement about God: the loving union speaks of family and God's values.

To arrange for marriage

Marriage preparation

Couples who are contemplating a wedding at St. Charles Borromeo Parish should contact the parish at least six months before the anticipated date. No date can be finalized until the appropriate marriage preparation has taken place. A requirement for a wedding is membership in our parish. This means that the bride, groom or their parents must be registered, participating, and involved in the life of the parish.

Evenings for the Engaged

As part of the marriage preparation at St. Charles couples will be asked to participate in five weeks of discussions with mentor couples in a program called Evenings for the Engaged. This gives couples an opportunity to discuss a variety of aspects of married life.

To arrange for convalidation of a non-Catholic wedding

If you are a baptized Catholic and were not married in the presence of a priest or deacon but rather before a minister or judge you should have your marriage convalidated or "blessed" in the Church. This is a ceremony in which the couple renews their vows in the presence of a deacon or priest and two witnesses.

Marriage celebration

St. Charles strives to promote vocations to marriages that reflect God's everlasting love. As one effort to do this we honor those couples who will celebrate a tenth, twentieth, twenty fifth, thirtieth, fortieth, fiftieth or more years of marriage throughout the coming year. On the Saturday closest to Valentines Day we invite married couples to an opportunity to renew their marriage vows at a Mass and then join in a special reception.
